Frequently Asked Questions:

Do I need any previous music/ guitar experience to take these courses? 2017-10-28T20:15:08+00:00

No! Our lessons start at the very basics, so even if you have never held a guitar before you can take our courses! Or, if you have some experience already, you can jump ahead and start with one of our more advanced courses.

Am I too old to learn to play guitar? 2017-10-28T20:15:21+00:00

Definitely not! Guitar can be learned at any age, and often older adults have advantages like better time management, goal setting, and understanding their own learning style.

How long will it take me to learn to play the guitar? 2017-10-28T20:15:30+00:00

This is a tough question to answer, because learning an instrument is a lifelong journey; there is simply no end to what you can learn. The time to learn an instrument is also directly related to the effort you put in; the more you practice, the quicker you will progress. However, if you are wondering how long it will take to competently play a few songs, the general time frame is a 2-3 months.

What kind of guitar will I need for these courses? 2017-10-28T20:15:36+00:00

You won’t need anything special as far as equipment. For our “Beginner” courses, any standard acoustic guitar will do (however you should avoid a “classical” style guitar, as the necks are shorter and wider than a standard acoustic) and for our  “Rock” guitar courses, any standard electric guitar will be fine.

Can’t I just learn how to play from free YouTube videos? 2017-10-28T20:15:48+00:00

YouTube is a great resource for guitar players, however there are many problems with this approach. Mainly, you will be learning random bits of information from multiple sources, which will lack continuity, and will not be in the proper sequence. The videos will vary in quality and some information may be taught incorrectly.  YouTube is best for players who have already learned the correct foundation.

I already know how to play guitar a little bit. Will this course help me? 2017-10-28T20:16:38+00:00

Yes, our courses cover a wide range of skill levels, from absolute beginner to intermediate/advanced. Some of our more experienced students have enjoyed our theory course to refresh their knowledge or maybe even learn theory that they skipped over in the past.
