Essential Guitar Strumming Patterns

As a beginner guitar player it is important to learn some essential guitar strumming patterns. Many songs use the same strumming pattern, and you can play almost any song if you know just a handful of patterns. In this video lesson, we will break down some of the most popular strumming patterns. We will start with a very simple approach and gradually add components to make the pattern a little more interesting sounding and more musical. We will start by playing just “down strokes” and then we will start to add in “up strokes” and skip certain strums to make the strum sound a little more like you would hear in a song. Take your time when learning these patterns; practice them slowly at first to get the “mechanics” of the strum down and then gradually increase the speed.
