Stevie Ray Vaughan to be inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Saturday

Twenty-five years after his death, the legendary Stevie Ray Vaughan will finally be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this Saturday April 18, 2015. The 30th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held in Cleveland at Cleveland’s Public Hall and will also be aired on HBO, but not until May 30th.

Stevie Ray’s band Double Trouble (drummer Chris Layton and bassist Tommy Shannon) will also be given the same honor. Joining them as fellow inductees will be the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Green Day, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Lou Reed, Ringo Starr and Bill Withers.

Stevie’s career was tragically cut short in August 1990 when he was killed in a helicopter crash leaving a performance at Alpine Valley, Wisconsin where he shared the stage with guitar greats Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray and Steveie’s brother Jimmy Vaughan. The show’s finale included all of these incredible guitarists playing a 20 minute rendition of Sweet Home Chicago together on stage. Buddy Guy later said “It was one of the most incredible sets I ever heard Stevie play. I had goose bumps.”

Stevie’s career, although short continues to impact and influence guitar players even today. His last album, In Step was certified Gold and won a Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Performance in 1990.

Although Stevie Ray Vaughan is being inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year, he has previously received similar honors. In 1982 he became one of the first musicians to be inducted into the Austin Music Hall of Fame and in 2000, he was inducted in the Blues Hall of Fame.
